Solids aren't the smell — residue is
You remove the piles, but liquid waste and residue stay ground into gravel, pavers, or turf. In the heat that residue bakes and off-gasses — that's what you smell.
Turf and gravel soak it in
Artificial turf backing and rock both trap residue underneath. Hosing alone just spreads it around; it needs an enzyme rinse plus consistent removal.
Heat amplifies everything
At 105–115°, any organic residue off-gasses hard. February-fresh yards reek in July with the same upkeep.
The durable fix is enzyme + consistency
Remove waste before it dries (weekly minimum), and rinse turf/gravel periodically with an enzyme treatment that digests the residue instead of masking it.
If the smell keeps coming back, you're fighting soaked-in residue. A weekly route plus an occasional turf rinse keeps a Chandler yard from ever reaching the smelly stage.
